When the National University was founded in 1910, it had 991 students enrolled and a faculty of 92 professors.

Currently the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM) offers two baccalaureate options on fourteen campuses throughout the Federal District of Mexico City. Of these, nine belong to the National Preparatory School (ENP) and five to the College of Science and Humanities (CCH). . Additionally, the UNAM has developed a distance learning modality (Bachillerato a Distancia, B@UNAM) to allow Spanish-speaking students in the United States and Canada to study their high school equivalency. Through the auspices of the Mexico City government and other national institutions, the baccalaureate distance learning option has been made available the general population as well.

The Baccalaureate School has an enrollment of 108, 699 for the school year 2009-2010.
