Degree of Doctor Honoris Causa awarded by UNAM

 

 

In accord with the University Bylaws, under the section titled: REGULATION FOR RECOGNIZING OUTSTANDING MERIT and the following articles, the conditions for granting the degree of Doctor Honoris Causa are enunciated as follows:


• Article 3.-The degree of Honoris Causa may be bestowed upon Mexican or foreign professors or researchers who possess exceptional merit evidenced in their contributions to teaching, the arts, letters or sciences. It may also be conferred upon those individuals who have carried out extraordinary work in improving the lives and well-being of humanity. Those persons honored with the degree of Doctor Honoris Causa shall be invested with the corresponding gown and mortarboard as well as with a diploma certifying the investiture.


• Article 4.- Only the University Rector is empowered to submit candidates for the degree of Doctor Honoris Causa to the Board of Trustees. The Board shall grant the degree of Doctor Honoris Causa when the candidate receives an assenting vote of two thirds of the members gathered in extraordinary session expressly and for this sole purpose.


• Article 15.- The degree of Doctor Honoris Causa is not the equivalent of a Ph.D. obtained through fulfilling the course of studies approved by the Board of Trustees.
